On the outskirts of Jaffa’s magical flea market, next to the renewed Nissan Nativ Acting School, which now resides in an expansive, well-equipped building, a new Theater, “Habait Theater” is making its first steps, headed by artistic directors Marina Beltov and Jason Danino Holt.

“Habait Theater” is an independent theater that will embrace and host shows by young artists (in mind and spirit only) whose work embodies the wide range of theater and performance arts, emphasizing new theatrical languages and contemporary, challenging work methods. Our vision is to become a leading theater. A home for innovative artists. To create, host and introduce audiences to the most cutting edge, groundbreaking and inspiring content in Israel today.

We aspire to become a place that offers artists the most advanced professional services, to provide them with a home that would host and accompany every aspect of their work in a personal, empowering manner. We envision Habait Theater as a lively hub of cultivation and culture, out of which a community of artists developing and enhancing Israeli theatre and performance art will emerge.

Our mission is to fill our theater halls with curious, culture-oriented audiences, to become a great stomping ground, a central axis in Jaffa's bustling flea market. Our job is to change the way people think about independent theater in 2016 Israel and to cultivate the next generation of artists to excellence, creativity and thinking outside the box.

We aspire to be an ever-growing cultural center that redefines the relationship between a cultural institute, the community that attends it and the artists who create in it. We’d like to change the face of the neighborhood – to become a beating heart in the community. We believe that art is like the veins through which the blood of society flows, we want to be fresh, sturdy veins, to be attentive to the rhythm, path and substance of that flowing blood.

A taste of what HABAIT theatre has done so far :

FOMO festival

The first ever theatre, dance and performance festival that is all about creating new shows that are aimed and conceptualized around a live broadcast online. All shows were made to be presented in front of a live audience and to be live on the web at the same time - asking questions about live art and technology, the contemporary place of the viewer and the Fear Of Missing Out that’s fuking our brains.

Habait Theater’s “Homegrown Incubator”

A unique residency program, first of its kind in Israel, for artists who have yet to put on a full-length production on a professional stage. A “greenhouse” that will provide four select artists with a six-month long personal and professional mentoring process. At the end of the greenhouse period one of these artists will be awarded a production grant and a mentor that will accompany them up until their premiere at “Habait Theater”.

Love Pricks

An assembly of new shows done by real life couples about love and partnership. We wanted to put a spot life on fascinating couples from the world of theatre, dance and performance and curate their shows in a two week long season about love and its pricks.

New shows

New shows of artistic directors Marina Beltov and Jason Danino Holt, New shows by leading artist in the theatre field such as Ofira Henig and Ati Citron and young talent such Gil Seri and Itai Doron.
